The 60-piece Klezmer Company Orchestra (KCO), conducted by Maestro Aaron Kula, and joined by vocalist Daniel Cochran, will present “Salute to the Spirit of America,” a concert of beloved symphonic classics that were inspired by politics and American life, on Sunday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium on Florida Atlantic University’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road. The patriotic tribute will feature Aaron Copland’s popular ballet “Rodeo,” Leonard Bernstein’s “Slava! A Political Overture” and “A Musical Toast” and P.I. Tchaikovsky’s rousing “1812 Overture.” Cochran will sing “Shall We Gather at the River” and “Simple Gifts” from Copland’s “Old American Songs” and “Singin’ in the Rain” from the original film score. Kula, is director of music performance and education at FAU Libraries, and KCO holds the distinction of being the only professional ensemble-in-residence at an academic library in the U.S. This is the seventh annual concert that FAU Libraries have sponsored to honor the Marvin and Sybil Weiner Spirit of America Collection, which is housed at the Wimberly Library.
