PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) (Copyright © 2024 MetroDesk Media, LLC) — Police In West Palm Beach Sunday identified the victim and suspect in a brutal murder-suicide near Palm Beach International Airport. West Palm Beach Police issued this advisory to BocaNewsNow.com:

A St. Lucie County woman was shot and killed in a motel parking lot by her estranged husband in front of the couple’s two sons Friday night before shooting himself about a mile away near Palm Beach International Airport.

At 7:38 p.m. March 29, the West Palm Beach Police Department’s Emergency Communications Center recevied 911 calls reporting a woman was shot in the parking lot behind the Quality Inn Motel at 1505 Belvedere Rd. First-arriving officers found the victim, identified as Jamie Rae Felix, 45 (D/O/B 7/14/78), of Port Saint Lucie, on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and immediately began CPR. Despite the lifesaving efforts, Felix died on the scene. As officers were respoding to the scene, an alert was broadcast for the shooter, identififed as Ray Anthony Felix, 60 (D/O/B 11/27/63), also of Port Saint Lucie, driving a rented white, four-door Nissan westbound on Belvedere Road from the scene. Felix dumped the Nissan at the Hertz Car Rental depot at 3175 Belvedere Rd., then walked off the property where officers found him about a quarter-mile away on a service road. As officers approached Felix, he took out a handgun and shot himself in the head. No shots were fired by officers. They began administering first aid to the suspect and he was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition and rushed into surgery. He died at 10:22 p.m. Friday.

West Palm Beach police homicide detectives determined that Felix demanded the victim drive him to West Palm Beach in her Chevy SUV, with their sons following in the Nissan, the 17-year-old at the wheel. For reasons still unknown, both cars pulled into the motel parking lot where Jamie Felix escaped the SUV, then Ray Felix got out and shot her. He then escaped in the Nissan, leaving their sons at the horrific scene.

Detectives are investigating this case as a murder-suicide however, the Palm Beach County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death of both the suspect and victim.
